Fixed Louvered Shutters

Estate Millwork offers many standard varieties of louvered shutters, and you can view them all at our louvered shutter catalog. Louvered shutters are typically found in Southern architecture, and on second stories of homes in the Mid Atlantic. They are configured to allow more air flow but less weather and light in the closed position, and should be installed such that, in the open position, the louvers shed water towards the house.

Operable Louvered Shutters

Each exterior shutter in our Antebellum collection can be ordered with operable louvers in one or all fields. Operable louvers give the ability to open and close the louvers according to preference, time of day, and weather. In addition to mounting each louver on flexible pivots, the shutter is equipped with a lift rod to move the louvers, and is machined with a small relief, called a mouse hole, to receive the lift road. Ideal even for interior or porch applications, you can just give us a call to have the louvers in your shutters converted to operating louvers.

Flat Panel Shutters

Reminiscent of the Federal period of American Architecture, our flat paneled shutters are ideal on Colonial, Federal, Neo-Classical, Arts and Crafts, and Mission homes. Each flat panel is composed of at least 3 boards that have had the grains reversed for maximum strength. A splined glue joint and a precision floating fit complete the design of these traditional, elegant shutters. These elegant wooden shutters can be customized with additional trim, moldings, or cut-outs.

Bahama / Bermuda Shutters

In the tropics, shutters are hung from the top of the window so that they can provide all day protection from the hot sun, even in the open position. Our elegant Bahama shutters are appropriate for both informal and formal architectural styles in hot climates, and can be used for main dwellings, pool houses, cabanas and other out buildings and open air environments. Often, Bahama shutters are wider than they are tall because they are hinged above the window and one shutter must do the job that two shutters would if the shutters were hung beside the windows. They can be furnished with horizontal piano hinges and adjustable aluminum shutter poles to allow them to open and close.

Board and Batten Shutters

Board and Batten Shutters are typically used to bring an element of charm to the exterior of an informal home.
