Cedar is dimensionally stable, meaning it is resistant to warping and twisting so your cedar shutters aren't going to go out of whack with temperature changes and drying over time. While cedars are the most popular and common choice among homeowners for exterior applications such as shutters there are many homeowners that opt for cypress. Cypress has been used in the southern United States for many years. Much like cedar cypress structurally stable and a bit harder than cedar, it also has similar protective qualities that protect it from bugs, moisture and decay.

Mahogany Shutters

If budget allows Mahogany is a great material for shutters. If your project is calling for a natural or stained finish Mahogany is a perfect choice with its tight straight reddish grain. Mahogany lumber is sturdy, strong and also resistant to moisture.
