Update your Cabinet Doors on a Dime
Published: November 19, 2020
Are you faced with the task of remodeling or updating your kitchen? If so we believe refacing your cabinets with new doors is a far better and less costly option than replacing the entire cabinet box and door. Refacing your cabinet doors can provide you a completely different upgraded look to your kitchen at a fraction of the cost and time required to replace the entire cabinet.
When Should I Replace the Cabinet Doors
There are some factors to consider if you are thinking about refacing your cabinets versus replacing them.
- I don't like the look of my current cabinet doors or they are not solid wood
- The existing cabinet boxes are in good condition
- I am happy with the current layout of my kitchen
If any or all of these statements are true you are a candidate for refacing your existing cabinets with new wooden cabinet doors rather than undertaking the task of replacing the whole cabinet box.
Where Do I Start
When it comes to replacing your cabinet doors you first need to decide what style of door you want. Estate Millwork several different styles and configurations of wooden cabinet doors such as louvered, raised panel, flat panel, v groove and bead board cabinet doors. Once you decide on a type some cabinet doors have several different panel configurations to choose from so the cabinet doors you choose can be unique to your preferences.
After you decide they type and configuration of door you want, the next steps are to measure and choose a finish. Measuring might be the most important step next to choosing the type of cabinet door that best suits your décor choices. If you are planning to reuse the existing hinges you can use the measurements of your existing doors. When ordering your doors you can decide to receive them unfinished or have them primed and finished by us.
Getting Ready for your New Cabinet Doors
While you're waiting for your new custom wooden cabinet doors to arrive you can begin to prep the existing cabinet boxes by filling any holes or dings in the wood and then paint or refinish to match your new cabinet doors.
Once your doors arrive you will first want finish them if necessary and then lay them out or dry fit the doors to make sure you have the corresponding door for each cabinet, nothing worse than hanging a cabinet door on wrong cabinet. After you have confirmed all doers are ready to go then you can begin to prep them for your hinges and mount them onto the cabinet boxes. After the doors have been mounted to the boxes you can then add any pulls and knobs onto the doors.
