Cleaning your Louvered Doors
Published: February 23, 2021
The louvered door style might look nice in your home but when it comes to cleaning them it can be a slight inconvenience. Louvered doors feature horizontal slats that can easily collect dust and nobody wants more dust in their home, so it is rather important to keep them clean. However this can be a tedious task, the tiny spaces in between the louvers are collecting points for dust and these spaces are typically too small to get your fingers into. So how do you get past this issue? Here are some pointers to help you clean your louvered doors and keep them looking nice.
Getting Started
Most importantly to clean louvered doors you are going to need more than just a rag, you will also need a thin device to guide your rag through the slats such as a ruler. However there is a little more to it than just this.
Where to Start
So you're ready to clean your louvered doors the best and most effective way to keep them clean and looking great.
- The first step is to wrap your rag around your ruler or non pointy object such as a butter knife. You want a non pointy device so as to not poke a hole through your rag and potentially scratch your finish.
- Once your rag is wrapped around your ruler spray the rag with a cleaning solution such as duster, polishing oil or some type of wood cleaner. The idea is to dampen your cleaning rag with the liquid for a better clean.
- With your rag wrapped around your ruler poke it in between the louvers, and simply run it back and forth in the spaces to clean the dust from in between the louvers. When doing this make sure you are pressing against both the top and bottom, but also make sure you are being overly aggressive to the point where you accidentally break a louver.
- Reach the corners. You can clean the corners of the louvers by using the bristles on a paintbrush to access those hard to reach areas. Wipe the dust off with your device of choice, there is no sense in only partially cleaning your louvered door.
- Lastly if you want the louvers to stay clean then make sure you are cleaning the entire door. If the rest of the door is left unclean this can dirty the louvers and put you all the way back at the beginning.
