Bring the Rustic Look Inside with Solid Barn Doors
Published: October 20, 2020
Rustic décor has taken the world by storm and has quite possibly become the style of the century.Scroll through a Pinterest board about decorating houses and chances are it won't be long before you spot a barn door. Barn doors are no longer a thing for outside they have become a great alternative to standard swing and pocket door. Not only are they useful space savers but barn doors can elevate the character in country, traditional and modern interior schemes alike.
Barn doors are great for small and crowded rooms where extra floor space is not available, but keep in mind what you gain in floor space can potentially be lost in wall space. When opening a barn door it can possibly block light switches and anything else along the wall where the door will roll into when it is open so keep this in mind when deciding if and where you want a barn door.
One of the cool things about sliding barn doors is that they can be used in many applications even if you have a tiny house or apartment. They can be used to create a separate room within a room or create a pantry from a recessed shelf in your kitchen.
Barn doors look perfectly at home in rustic bathrooms; the natural beauty of the wood is allowed to become the center of attention. Every room has its own style and décor but there is an infinite number of ways to use barn doors in a bathrooms design. Using a barn door on an en-suite bathroom is the perfect opportunity to introduce new elements with rustic casualness such as a wooden headboard.
With all that being said it's time to swap out your current ordinary doors with rustic sliding barn doors.
Swapping your Existing Door for a Rustic Sliding Barn Door
Swapping out your existing standard door is relatively simple and can even be a weekend DIY project. First thing is you'll want to remove the existing door and hardware, at this point you may also want to remove and replace the frame to get rid of the jamb, catch, and hinge cut outs. Once the opening has been prepped, the most important step is to properly hang the rail on which your door will slide, keep in mind this rail will bear a great deal of weight from your door so it needs to be secured to the wall to prevent any issues. When attaching the rail to the wall it needs to be affixed to a header that is attached to the studs in the wall. Once your header and rail has been installed, you can affix the rollers and any other hardware on the door and then hang the door on the rail.
